Everyone wants harmony in their homes. Feng Shui is defined as ‘wind and water' and is used to have better peace and well being in the home. There are five parts to this art and they are fire, earth, metal, water and wood. Feng Shui uses the correct locations of items in our homes to bring about the most potential for harmony in the way the energy moves. Everything in the home can be affected if things are not aligned using this long held Chinese art. This article will explain how a home freshwater aquarium can affect Feng Shui.

The energy in your home is either positive or negative according to the flow. So how does any of this tie in with fish tanks? Remember the five parts to Feng Shui? The fire, the earth, the metal, the water and the wood? An aquarium contains all of this. Of course, there's the water in the tank, this is the Feng Shui water element. The fish are said to be the fire element mainly because of specific colors of red, orange and gold. The plants are the wood element of Feng Shui. The sand and gravel represent the Earth portion of Feng Shui and the rocks are said to be the metal component. When positioned in the correct location, an aquarium can bring prosperity into your home.

In Feng Shui, location plays a very important part. Certain arrangements represent differing meanings. For wealth according to Feng Shui, the tank should be placed in the southeast part of your living room. If you want Feng Shui for your job, then put the tank in the northern part of the living room. For family or health harmony from Feng Shui, the tank would need to go in the eastern area of the living room. Which room to place the tank in does matter. An aquarium should not be set up in the bedroom as this can disrupt the Chi.

If you want to attract harmony and wealth having an aquarium is a wonderful way to achieve this as long as you understand how Feng Shui works. You must keep the aquarium clean in order for the fish to remain healthy and to promote the positive energy in Feng Shui.

When you want an aquarium to work with the energy flow of Feng Shui, you must take care that you don't bring about negative energy. Don't put up the tank and then set up chairs or other furniture so that you face the tank but your back faces the entry door.

If you're still not sure where to place the aquarium, you can determine the energy of an area by using a part of Feng Shui known as Bagua. This word is referencing the eight areas of Feng Shui of which the east, north and southeast is a part.
